Walking around Rostov-on-Don: popular tourist routes

The history of this great city began at the end of the 17th century, when Peter I ordered to break up a small settlement for his soldiers in its territory. Later, the settlement was known as Temernitskaya Customs, a port of five seas and a city of military glory. Today it is a multinational agglomeration, where more than two million people live. It is clear that, having such an age and dense population, Rostov-on-Don has a rich history and numerous attractions.

You can get to Rostov both by land and by air. The local international airport receives 45 companies, following 78 regular routes, which can be viewed on the website http://avia24.net/rejsy/rostov-na-donu/. The airlines UTair and Donavia are based here; the Rostov-on-Don-Moscow plane of the Aeroflot company flies out from here daily. The flight schedule includes flights to Dushanbe, Verona, Barcelona, Thessaloniki, Baku, Dubai, Istanbul and Prague. In addition, you can always find interesting domestic flight: to Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Sochi, Simferopol, Petersburg or Novosibirsk.

The airport is located just 8 kilometers from the central area of the city, next to it are the stops of 9 buses, 6 taxis and trolleybus 9, so getting from it to the desired point is easy. As a rule, guests of Rostov seek to get to its southern part, where a huge number of places of memory are concentrated. First of all, it is the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin - an architectural masterpiece of 1860. Those who are not indifferent to Orthodox religious objects, as well as those who would like to combine sightseeing with a visit to the famous Rostov market (located next to the cathedral), strive to visit it.

Not far from the Cathedral of the Nativity, Bolshaya Sadovaya Street is located - the main avenue of Rostov. Walking through it, you can find many interesting buildings: the State Bank, the house of Margarita Chernova, the oldest hotel "Moskovskaya", as well as historically significant residential buildings, bearing the names of their first owners.

You can complete the study tour by walking along the picturesque embankment of the Don. Monuments, stone slabs, luxury flower beds in the summer, the sculptures of famous masters - only a small part of its attractions. And the most famous of them are the bronze monument Nakhalenku and the sculpture “Aksinya and Gregory in a boat”. In recent years, it is their images that adorn most tourist photographs.
