On April 12, 1961, the cosmic era of mankind began to read: Yuri Gagarin flew into space on the Vostok ship.
For 108 minutes, Yuri Gagarin flew around the earth and landed near the Volga city of Engels, in the Saratov region. At an altitude of several kilometers, Gagarin catapulted and made a soft landing with a parachute near the descent vehicle.
After the flight was over, Gagarin's smile became known to the whole world, and the astronaut himself was awarded the highest awards of the USSR. Also in his honor renamed the streets and erected monuments in many cities of the Soviet Union.
The first cosmonaut of the planet was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, and the day of his flight became a national holiday - Cosmonautics Day, starting April 12, 1962.
