Spiral in Andromeda

Spiral in Andromeda

Do not confuse it with a neighboring galaxy. Andromeda is one of 88 modern constellations. But more importantly, it sheltered NGC 7640, shown in the picture.

To identify galaxies by shape and structure, many different classifications are used. NGC 7640 is a spiral type. It is easy to recognize because of the spiral processes that fan out not from a round core, but from an elongated rod running through the center of the galaxy. Our Milky Way also belongs to this type. NGC 7640 may not resemble a spiral, but this is due only to its orientation towards the earth observer. In this case, the photographer was the Hubble Space Telescope. There is evidence that NGC 7640 has experienced some kind of interaction in the past. In galaxies, a lot of mass, which affects each other by gravity. Sometimes this happens moderately, and sometimes dramatically, when two or more objects merge into a large galaxy. Understanding their history helps astronomers to better understand the formation of galaxies and their stars.
