Two satellites at the asteroid Florence

NASA illustration shows Florence - an asteroid that has flown by at a distance of 7 million km from the planet.

A radar survey showed that asteroid Florence has two satellites. The data was obtained when the object flew past our planet at a distance of 7 million km.

Information was obtained in the period from August 29 to September 1 at the next asteroid flight. Scientists say that satellites in width extend 100-300 meters. Internal spends on the orbital passage of 22-27 hours.

NASA notes that about 60,000 near-Earth asteroids possess moons, but from 1994-2009 Florence was the first find with two.

Other objects were also approaching the Earth, but they were smaller.
