Awakening of the Chinese lunar rover

For five days, the Chinese lunar rover Yutu-2 spent in hibernation. January 10, he returned to work on the far side of the moon. On January 5, the device had to plunge into forced sleep in order to protect itself from temperatures reaching around 200 ° C.

Since then, the 140-pound rover has resumed activity, which includes shooting the front of the descent module and exploration missions. Project Chang'e-4 (named after the Chinese moon goddess) completed the world's first successful landing on the dark side of the moon on January 3.

The rover separated from the landing gear and swept across the surface of the earth satellite. Beijing is investing billions in the military space program, hoping to launch a space station with a crew by 2022 and deliver people to the moon. This is the second Chinese probe that landed on the moon after the 2013 Yutu mission. The near side has a large number of flat locations, but the distant one is characterized by the predominance of mountains and stones.

On the probe Chang'e-4 are tools developed by German, Swedish and Chinese scientists. They are designed to study the lunar environment, cosmic radiation and the contact of the solar wind with the lunar surface. Scientists hope to better explore the internal structure of the moon and thermal evolution.
