Artistic vision of a hot Jupiter
Scientists have found two hot Jupiter, rotating around distant stars. New worlds have designated EPIC 229426032b and EPIC 246067459b, but the oddity is that they seem larger than the models show.
Such objects refer to “swelling”, that is, expand in size when their parent stars approach the end of their existence. About 20 years have been known about them, but it is not yet clear what is the cause of the inflation processes. Basically, two theories are considered: the deposition of energy from a star or the drag cooling of the planet.
The found “inflating” planets will help to improve the understanding of the mechanism of inflation processes in gas giants. New worlds also belong to the category of hot Jupiter - similar in characteristics with the largest planet of our system. They are very hot and are located close to the star.
The transit signal in the light curves of the stars EPIC 229426032 and EPIC 246067459 was noticed during the mission Kepler (K2) in the 11th and 12th companies. Later, the planetary nature was confirmed by spectroscopic surveys. EPIC 229426032b mass reaches 1.36 mass of Jupiter and 63% more of the planet. But the density (0.38 g / cm 3) shows that the world is too bloated. Spends 2.18 days on the orbital path with a distance of 0.036 a. The temperature rises to 1915 K. The parent star belongs to the F6V spectral type, and its age is 2.55 billion years. It is 40% larger and 30% more massive than the Sun. The system is distant from us for 1500 light years.
EPIC 246067459 b reaches 1.3 Jupiter radii and 0.86 of its massiveness. The density indicator is 0.56 g / cm 3. The planet is distant from the star at 0.046 a. e. and makes an orbital circling in 3.2 days. It warms up to 1587 K. The star reached the age of 5.6 billion years and belongs to the G2V spectral type. It is 60% more and 20% more massive than the Sun. Located at a distance of 1480 light years.
