Coniferous trees or bushes will be an interesting decoration for the garden. Regardless of the season, these plants retain their green color and do not lose their shape. The spiny decor can be beautifully grouped, grouped with other hardwoods or made a central object. Saplings of coniferous plants of rocks beautifully shade flower glades. If the trees are in the background, then they create a beautiful background and a favorable design basis for arranging the whole plot.
Selection of the type of seedlings
It is important to choose the type and shape of future seedlings of conifers. For this you need to know the following information about the purchased seedlings:
- volume and shape of tree branches;
- necessary comfortable territory for the grown tree;
- soil composition and reaction to sunlight;
- watering frequency.
In most cases, coniferous plants intended for sale, put in pots or just wind up the roots. For the convenience of year-round disembarkation, distributors provide for container packaging.
Horticultural trade organizations sell seedlings, seeds, floriculture products, adapted to the local climate and soil. At the price of such a product is inferior to the container version. But the seller must provide the desired water balance to the root system. To do this, in a plastic wrap poured damp earth and wrap the seedling from the bottom so that the root was completely surrounded by a lump. Practice shows that such a method helps plants to adapt more quickly to new soil and avoid disease.
When purchasing a coniferous tree, you should immediately start the process of planting. If the plant is not planted in the near future, the purchase is placed in a cool place, and the closed root part is regularly moistened. Note to gardeners! Saplings, seeds, floriculture products are transplanted with roots covered with earth. If the plants were bought from the nursery, then it is better to plan the landing for April or the end of summer. In the latter case, intensive cell division ends, the growth process slows down and the plant does not “painfully” react to mechanical damage to the root system. And to the first frost rhizome has time to release new processes that secure the tree in the ground.
If the coniferous plant is transplanted in late autumn, then the roots will not have the opportunity to grow and strengthen. These seedlings are dying before they reach spring.
Preparation for planting seedlings
- At the first stage, it is necessary to choose a place for a tree, taking into account that it is undesirable to replant conifers.
- In the second stage, calculate the distance between seedlings. These parameters should not exceed 3-5 m for trees, and 1-3 m for shrubs. Nearly planted trees will not survive in crowded.
- Provides the desired level of soil acidity. Since the needles require a special composition of the soil, it is necessary to bring a special soil. With the right balance, specific forest microorganisms multiply in such a land.
- An independent enrichment of the soil with peat or manure is organized.
Notes! Old gardeners put in pits for bushes of rye bread. Its acid bacteria has a beneficial effect on the soil.
Dig a hole of such size so that you can freely mark two similar plant roots. Part of the dug land is removed by uselessness. Fertilizer or special purchased soil is covered with the first layer. The root of the seedling with adhering soil is well moistened and lowered into the pit. In this case, the root processes should not be crushed. The barrel is set vertically and fixed at the desired depth. The latter figure should match the growth conditions in the nursery.
The pit is filled with pre-dug earth and lightly rammed. Around the trunk dig a funnel and fill it with water. After complete absorption of moisture, the surface of the recess is covered with mowed grass or peat. Monitor the preservation of the funnel to collect moisture.
Fresh plantings require regular watering. In arid hot weather, plants are covered with canopies of fabric or fine mesh. Such devices are mounted on wooden racks.
If the plant has a narrow shape and high growth, then their trunks are fixed to wooden stakes. The roots of these seedlings are weak and can not withstand the effects of negative natural phenomena.
Various decorative forms of coniferous plants allow you to equip a garden or cottage area with a creative approach. Interesting compositions are based on the contrast of tree geometry and type of pine needles. Low ornamental breeds with non-standard crowns fit beautifully in small gardens.
If coniferous shrubs or trees are properly planted, then the root system firmly grows into the ground. Such garden crops will decorate the site for a long time.
