Lunar craters named after Apollo 8

A color photograph of the Earth against the moon by astronaut William Anders. This is one of the most famous images of the Apollo 8 mission. He became a cult for the environmental movement to save the Earth. Two craters imprinted here got new ones.

Newly named craters are seen in the foreground of the famous color photography of the Earth’s rise, taken by astronaut William Anders. Here is the moment when our bright planet emerges from the cosmic void with the leading edge of the moon. This is one of the most famous images of the Apollo 8 mission, which has become a cult for the environmental movement to save the Earth.

The moon is in the gravitational block to the Earth, so it always looks at us with one side. In lunar orbit, Apollo 8 astronauts (William Anders, Frank Borman and James Lovell) miraculously managed to capture this view before returning to Earth. The Working Group on the nomenclature of the planetary system (WGPSN) of the International Astronomical Union has assigned new names to the craters, which were previously marked simply by letters. New names: “Earth dawn of Anders” and “8 to the house”.
