Looking to the future

The image of the Hubble telescope shows the fusion of two galactic structures. The observable vortex node is NGC 2623 (Arp 243), distant by 250 million light years. Lives in the constellation of Cancer.

A remarkable shape was created because of the scale impact and the galactic compound. This led to the fact that gas mists inside the two galaxies clenched and began to mix, which caused an intense star birth. Here this territory is marked with bright blue spots. Can be grouped in the center or along the dust and gas tracks, creating tidal tails. Tails are able to stretch for 50,000 light years. A huge number of young and heated stars appear in hot clusters. Approximately 170 such clusters reside on the territory of NGC 2623.

NGC 2623 is at the final stage of the merger. It is believed that once the Milky Way will also acquire such a form after a collision with the Andromeda galaxy in 4 billion years. An early picture was taken in 2009, but the new version shows narrowband and infrared reviews, presenting more details.
