Researchers are studying a meteorite from Michigan

Scientists from the Chicago Field Museum view a piece of a meteor that has collapsed over Michigan in early January.

The size of the shard is slightly smaller than the peach bone. The 6-meter object is believed to have split at a height of 20 miles above the earth's surface. At the same time, the event was accompanied by a loud bang (like thunder) and a bright glow.

The museum curator Philip Heck believes that the meteorite is part of an asteroid located between Mars and Jupiter. Meteor hunter Robert Ward found him on an icy lake near Hamburg (Michigan) and donated it to a museum.

Meteoroid - a small asteroid or cometary particle. When entering the earth's atmosphere, it becomes a fireball (“shooting star”). Fragments on the ground are called meteorites.
