Photos of the cosmos: strings of homeless stars

This vivid picture from the Hubble Space Telescope presents a massive galactic cluster of RXC J0232.2-4420. For the review, the wide-angle camera 3 was used as part of the RELICS program. The project managed to display 41 massive clusters in order to search for the brightest distant galaxies, which will be the target for the future telescope of James Webb.

The powerful gravitational influence of such clusters distorts the space around them and forms large-scale cosmic lenses that increase distant background galaxies. The study of early representatives will reveal a lot of valuable information about our cosmic origin. RXC J0232.2-4420 was also noted in a study on galactic clusters acting as bright sources of X-rays. Scientists searched for scattered light around the brightest galaxies in clusters. This diffuse glow comes from intergalactic stars. One of the theories of their origin is that they could be pushed out during the period of confluence and contact between galaxies.
