A failed supernova?

The irregular galaxy UGC 12682 is shown in the picture from the Hubble Space Telescope. It is 70 million light-years distant from us and lives in Pegasus. Its shape is distorted and oddly structured by bright stellar-born compartments.

In November 2008, 14-year-old Carolyn Moore from New York spotted a supernova in the galaxy. Thanks to this, the girl became the youngest person at that time to discover a supernova. Further observations of scientists for the SN 2008ha revealed interesting data. It turned out that the galaxy itself rarely creates supernovae. This is one of the weakest observed supernovae. After the explosion, it expanded too slowly, indicating a low energy release.

Now astronomers take SN 2008ha to a class Ia-type - a blast of a white dwarf. Perhaps SN 2008ha is the result of a partially failed supernova, which explains the inability of the explosion to destroy the entire star.
