The Space Roasters startup, based in the United Arab Emirates, announces a new development of coffee bean roasting that will soon be able to satisfy coffee lovers around the world with new products.
The fact is that when roasting grains under normal conditions, they can crack or burn, creating an unpleasant bitterness. How to get rid of it? Well, one of the ways looks very original - to use weightlessness.
The idea is to develop a special capsule for roasting grains (the model has already been patented). It is represented by four compartments, each of which holds 75 kg of coffee beans. The company plans to negotiate with space private companies for launches or find alternatives.
The bottom line is that you need to run the capsule to a height of 180-200 km, then drop it back to Earth. During the fall, friction with the atmospheric layer is created, which will create the conditions for roasting. 20 minutes should be enough for the grains to be fried until they are perfectly cooked. Fall conditions will recreate a state of weightlessness, where they will undergo uniform cooking without the risk of burning (the grains do not touch the hot surface).
Will there be demand?
Representatives of Space Roasters say that due to the new roasting method, it will be possible to create a unique taste and aroma of cosmic coffee drink, which no one has ever tried. But skeptics immediately jumped at the calculators to calculate the cost of the finished product.
Let's not forget that launching into space is not a cheap matter. If you consider all the costs (the company has yet to find a way to start, as well as a safe place to land the capsule), you will have to pay $ 20,000 for 1 kg. That is, if you want to enjoy a small cup of cosmic coffee, then get ready to pay the seller $ 200-500.
