This is a prototype project of the European Space Agency for the development, manufacture and demonstration of an optical instrument created by 3D printing.
A telescope with two mirrors, formed on the basis of a European instrument for tracking ozone, was rather not constructed, but literally “grown”. All design requirements were implemented using topology optimization software to select the best shape.
The first layout was printed with liquid photopolymer plastic and painted with a spray. The final version will be made in metal. At the very end, the device will be tested in a simulated space environment.
