Auction for Stephen Hawking's things: from notes to a wheelchair

In March 2018, the great physicist and space explorer Stephen Hawking did not become. Now several of his things were exhibited at the Christie's auction house (London). The subjects include the original copy of the doctoral dissertation and theses from the work “Properties of the expanding universes” of the University of Cambridge, which are expected to sell for $ 126,000-189000. Theses include Hawking’s signature and handwritten note confirming the authenticity of the copy.

In addition, the wheelchair, which the physicist used from the 1980s to the early 1990s, was put up for auction before he lost the ability to control his hands. At the age of 21, a known physicist was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease). Doctors told Hawking that he had only a few years left to live. However, he lived to 76!

One of the five famous original copies of Stephen Hawking's thesis was auctioned. ALS is characterized by a progressive weakening of the muscles, including the vocal cords. Therefore, Hawking most of his life was forced to use a wheelchair to move and talk. The wheelchair sales proceeds will be donated to the Stephen Hawking Foundation and the Motor Neuron Disease Association (a term for ALS in the UK).
