Here's a real fact for you - Tycho Brahe didn't have a nose. This is a famous astronomer, alchemist and astrologer, who lived in the Renaissance. Known for many discoveries, but let's find out how he was not lucky to lose his own nose!
Mysterious Star
Tycho Brahe was fond of astronomy and even corresponded with many prominent scientists. However, after the death of his father, he had to lead a family business. Together with his uncle, he operated two factories engaged in the production of glass and paper. Everything went to ensure that forever forget about the starry sky. But one night the world turned upside down for him.
In 1572 he accidentally looked into the night sky and noticed strangely a bright star in the constellation territory Cassiopeia. She could not be a planetary object, so Brahe continued to follow her all the time of the glow - 17 months. Moreover, the brilliance was initially so bright that the star could be found even during the day.

The mysterious object was the first flash of a supernova in 500 years in the Milky Way. Many serious scientists believed that supernova was a precursor of death and catastrophe. But Brahe released his work, where he indicated that there was no danger, and the new star was not a comet at all and was located far from Earth. As a result, the statements of Tycho Brahe proved to be true, and he became the most influential astronomer of Denmark. He created many astronomical instruments, developed new solar tables and almost exactly measured the length of the year (the error reached less than 1 s). He also released a star catalog, which replaced the outdated work of Ptolemy.

In 1566 Quiet Brahe was still only a 20 year old student at the University of Rostock (Germany). He was an enthusiastic young man who, up to the last, defended his case. The story says that at one of the receptions at the university professor Brahe quarreled with one of the distant relatives. It was Manderup Parsberg.
They say that the cause was astronomical disagreements or an argument about a mathematical formula. Friends tried to reconcile them, but the next chance meeting was fatal. Set a time duels (absolutely normal practice in those times).
Tycho Brahe was considered an experienced swordsman, but the battle literally took place in dark night gate. One unsuccessful lunge and Braga lost part of the nose and nose bridge. Next time, carefully study the art portraits and look at the nose. For a 20 year old guy this is a bounce. However, a solution was found. Artificial nose! More specifically, it was a special model of gold, silver and copper, which Brahe constantly attached to living tissue with the special glue. The alloy was carefully chosen to imitate the color of real leather. It was possible to notice how at parties and in society he had to leave to put a little glue or cream and fix his nose.
Postscript
Despite a serious injury, Tycho Brahe not only survived (it was possible to pick up some infection), but also became a famous astronomer who influenced further breakthrough discoveries. By the way, he has quite normal relations with the enemy. Moreover, Parsberg later helped Braga financially when the king refused to pay.
