Splendor of the Crab Nebula

Splendor of the Crab Nebula

You are looking at a new picture of the Crab Nebula, made in neon colors. To get a similar image, I had to display the entire electromagnetic spectrum. This required the help of Very Large Antenna Lattice (radio - red), NASA Spitzer (infrared - yellow), Hubble (optical - green), XMM-Newton (ultraviolet - blue) and Chandra (X-ray - purple).

It was first noticed by Chinese astronomers in 1054. It is distant by 6500 light years and occupies a place in the constellation Taurus. In the central part is the pulsar. This is a superdense neutron star, which takes only 33 milliseconds per revolution. Around you can notice a mixture of material, part of which separated before the star became a supernova, and another part after the explosion. Particles are picked up by swift winds, creating whole whirlwinds. They form layers that appear in different colors in the image.
