Frank Israel graduated from the Leiden Observatory about 40 years ago and then nobody knew that one of his theories would stir the public in 2018.

As a young man, Israel became interested in the mysterious difference in the speed of stars in the center of the Orion Nebula and the surrounding gas. As a doctoral research, he focused on the topic of luminous gas nebulae, reflected in various wavelengths. Many of the nebulae were created in bizarre forms that did not succumb to the theory of time: asymmetric with an uneven noncentral stellar distribution.

The scientist spent a year measuring the radiation emitted by carbon monoxide molecules. The presence of radiation proved the existence of giant, solid and invisible clouds of molecular gas and dust. Israel decided to determine the characteristics of several dozen of these gas nebulae.

A new NASA video displays a surface pit destroyed by stars in the Orion Nebula. The model is consistent with the predictions proposed by Frank Israel 40 years ago

All these conclusions contradicted the general theory of time - the stars are formed in the centers of the clouds. But, despite the paradigm shift, the new theory quickly became a generally accepted idea regarding the formation of nebulae.

For the video, space telescopes were used in Baltimore, the data of which were combined with special effects and computer graphics. Now the video is available to the general public to demonstrate a clear picture of the theory.
