Saturday launches secret American satellite

The mobile service tower departs from the Delta-4 rocket, which transports the NROL-71 mission, in preparation for the launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base (California). Start is scheduled for January 19, 2018

The new spy satellite of the United States should go into space this weekend. To launch the NROL-71 spacecraft, a Delta-4 rocket is used, which starts on January 19 at 14:05 (EST) at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

Initially, the launch was planned to be held in early December, but due to bad weather and technical problems, we had to postpone the launch several times. The last attempt (December 19) failed due to a small leak of hydrogen to Delta-4. It took several weeks to solve the problem.

Representatives of the US government did not disclose the characteristics of the satellite NROL-71, as well as its purpose. The launch will be officially broadcast, but the recording will stop 6 minutes after the start in order to preserve secrecy.
