The US government is stepping up efforts to protect the planet from incoming asteroids that can destroy entire regions or even continents.

On June 20, 2018, the National Science and Technology Council of the United States published a report in which it called for improved detection, tracking and avoidance of asteroids. This was attended by NASA and representatives of the White House. At the moment, scientists do not see dangerous comets or asteroids moving toward our planet. However, one can still slip unnoticed, so the government is seeking to improve the plan.

Scientists were able to fix 95% of all near-Earth objects, stretching in the amount of 1 km or more. But the threat still comes from the remaining 5%, hiding out of sight.
