Space Atlas

Space Atlas

This magnificent bright patch of gas, a grim dust curtain and glittering stars displays a spiral galaxy of type NGC 4248. It is 24 million light-years away and lives in the Hounds of Dogs territory.

This image appeared at the beginning of the creation of the first ultraviolet atlas of Hubble. To do this, the telescope had to track 50 closest galaxies supporting a stellar birth. This is an incredibly valuable sample, as it contains all types of morphologies, masses and structures.

The study of the process of star formation and development helps to predict places where this is possible. In addition, we can get more information about the change of this process, as well as links with the characteristics of galaxies and the environment.
