NASA Orion spacecraft in numbers

The first test flight of a NASA Orion spacecraft was postponed from Thursday due to technical problems with the rocket.

The launch was planned from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The launch was postponed three times because of the boat in the waters off the coast of Florida, gusts of wind and rocket valve problems.

Orion capsule was designed and built to send people to distant destinations in the solar system, such as an asteroid or Mars. On the eve of this historic launch, this is what the numbers say:

20,000: The speed in miles per hour (32,000 km / h), from which Orion will re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere during a test flight.

4000: degrees Fahrenheit (2200 degrees Celsius) - the temperature around the outer skin of Orion when it enters the atmosphere of the Earth.

3600: Orion's maximum altitude in miles (5,800 km) above the Earth during a test flight. This is more than 15 times the orbit of the International Space Station.

1200: the number of sensors on board the capsule that will record the load, vibration, temperature, pressure and acceleration values during flight. 11: The number of Orion parachutes that will be deployed to slow its descent into the Earth’s atmosphere to a planned landing in the Pacific.

10: Orion's target landing area width in miles (16 km), located more than 200 miles (320 km) off the coast of California.

5: Diameter of the Orion Residential Module in meters (16, 5 feet). The volume of Orion capsules is 2.5 times larger than the volume of the Apollo capsule.

4.5: Orion's first test flight time in hours.

4: The number of crew members who can accommodate on board Orion.

3: the time in hours through which Orion must reach its maximum height above the surface of the Earth.

2: the number of seconds that Orion’s launch system will take to accelerate from 0 to 500 miles per hour (from 0 to 800 km / h).

1: the first test flight of Orion into space and the beginning of a new era of manned cosmonautics.
