The Great Wall of China is visible from space! Or not?

Do you see the Great Wall of China here?

There is a myth that the Great Wall of China is the only man-made object that can be seen from space. Moreover, the legend says that the building is visible even from the moon! Russian cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev decided that he was able to capture the epic structure from space, but this does not mean that it is easy to detect from orbit.

Artemyev published a snapshot of China with the ISS with the caption: “The orbital station flies over China. Gerst and I believe that the Great Wall of China is visible in the photo. I have been looking for her for so long! ”.

Artemyev refers to another member of the ISS and ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst. They think that the image can be considered a wall, although it is difficult to say which of these lines relates to the structure. If the wall really was in the picture, the astronauts still used the camera for observation, and not ordinary vision. NASA reports that the wall is usually not visible to the naked eye from a low near-earth orbit. It covers thousands of kilometers, but not wide enough.

In 2005, NASA scientist Kamlesh Lulla said that the wall is difficult to distinguish, because the materials used in the construction are similar in color and structure to the earth around it. What about a review from the moon? No chances! The astronauts who visited the earth satellite said that no artificial earth objects could be seen at such a distance.
